- Accreditation: The fellowship was established in 1992 and has been ACGME accredited since 1998.
- Faculty: 7 Fulltime and 2 Part time Pediatric Otolaryngology Faculty provide the majority of the training experience and 3 Neurootologists provide for adjuvent otologic experience.
- Licensing Requirement: Texas Institutional Permit or Medical License required.
- Appointment Level: Fellow, Department of Otolaryngology Baylor College of Medicine.
- Clinic Responsibilities: One-half clinic per week for outpatient consults.
- Operative Experience: TCH is the largest Children’s Hospital in the USA, which provides broad and extensive exposure to pediatric otolaryngology cases. Tertiary care cases include otologic procedures, including cochlear implants, airway surgery, including laryngotracheal reconstruction and laser surgery of the airway, neck masses, and sinus surgery. The 138 bed NICU, 31 bed PICU, 36 bed Cancer Center, 15 bed Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and 22 pediatric surgery suites provide extensive exposure to complex and challenging pediatric patients.
- Fellow Supervision: Yes. Philosophy is to encourage incremental learning and development of independent, critical thinking skills however faculty support is always available and required in the operating room by hospital bylaws.
- Call requirements: Baylor College of Medicine residents cover all first calls for Pediatric Otolaryngology. Some home call by fellows is required.
- Research: There are ample opportunities to pursue clinical research projects but research is not required.
