Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology. Before applying, we recommend reviewing the membership information and application criteria below.

Membership Types

Full Member

An otolaryngologist with a majority (80%) of medical and surgical practice involving pediatric patients. It is also recommended, though not required, to be a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head Neck Surgery or the Canadian Otolaryngology Society before application submission. Members are required to pay dues, are eligible to vote, serve on committees, and hold office.

International Member

An otolaryngologist who practices outside of the United States or Canada who otherwise fulfills the requirements for admission to the Society as a Member but who is not a Diplomat of the American Board of Otolaryngology or a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Canada). An International Member is not required to pay dues, not eligible to vote, and not eligible to hold office; however, is eligible to serve on committees.

Fellow Member

An enrollee of a pediatric otolaryngology fellowship or recent graduate of a fellowship (completed less than 3 years from the time of application). A Fellow Member shall not be required to pay dues, shall not be able to vote, and shall not be eligible to serve as a voting member on committees or to hold office. The maximum duration of Fellow Membership is three years. After this time, a Fellow member must re-apply for full membership under the criteria necessary for Full Membership.

Advanced Practice Provider Member

Has a certification as a CRNP (Certified Registered Nurse Prescriber or Physician Assistant) in family practice or pediatrics and an active unrestricted license to practice pediatric medicine in the United States or Canada.

Eligibility Criteria For Membership Application:

  • Have attended at least one ASPO meeting in the 3 years before the application
  • Be an otolaryngologist practicing in the United States or Canada
  • Be recognized and identified by peers as a pediatric otolaryngologist
  • Have successfully completed a fellowship program in pediatric otolaryngology
  • Have demonstrated professional activities in the field of pediatric otolaryngology for a minimum of two years following completion of pediatric
  • otolaryngology fellowship training and before submitting the application
  • Able to demonstrate completion of one of the following items:
  • Have authored a minimum of two (2) peer-reviewed publications in the field of pediatric otolaryngology published in online or print peer-reviewed journals or editor-reviewed textbooks
  • Written quality and safety improvement metrics or contributions to health care policy by organizations (hospital, society, etc.)
  • Participation in educational activities to include lectures to community physicians, grand rounds, or presentations at local, national, and international meetings.
  • Have furnished letters of recommendation from two (2) active ASPO members

Materials Needed For The Membership Application:

  • Have all supplemental materials collected and ready for submission before the start of the application process. You will be asked to upload these to the application before submitting.
  • Choose the appropriate category of membership, as outlined above and in the bylaws. Make sure you fulfill the membership criteria for the category you selected.

Categories are as follows:

  • Member, International Member, Fellow Member, and Advanced Practice Provider.
  • Two (2) letters of sponsorship from members of ASPO. Sponsors should speak about their relationship with you, how long they have known you, and elaborate on the overall attributes that make you a good candidate to become a member of ASPO.
  • Complete the application in full. We recommend completing the application in one sitting.
  • Pay a non-refundable application fee of $100 USD. Payments can be made online with a credit card at the time of submission.

Materials For Fellow Membership Application:

  • Have all supplemental materials collected and ready for submission before the start of the application process. You will be asked to upload these to the application before submitting.
  • Complete the application in full. We recommend completing the application in one sitting.
  • One (1) letter of recommendation from a voting ASPO Member in good standing
  • One (1) letter of support from the Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship Director
  • No application fee is required.

Materials For APP Membership Application:

  • Have all supplemental materials collected and ready for submission before the start of the application process. You will be asked to upload these to the application before submitting.
  • Complete the application in full. We recommend completing the application in one sitting.
  • Have privileges at a Children's hospital or pediatric center with affiliation with a division/practice of pediatric otolaryngology or department of otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.
  • Have demonstrated professional activities in the field of pediatric otolaryngology for a minimum of 2 years following completion of Nurse Practitioner/Physician
  • Assistant training and before applying.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from voting ASPO Members in good standing.
  • Has attended at least one ASPO meeting in the 3 years before application or attendance at the meeting in the year of application
  • A $100 application fee is required.
