ASPO Visiting International Scholar / Sylvan Stool Travel Award Program

Purpose:

To assist otolaryngologists from outside the U.S.A. to attend the annual ASPO meeting and visit a tertiary care pediatric otolaryngology program.

Goals:

To train otolaryngologists from countries other than the US and Canada so they can return to teach colleagues and raise the standard of pediatric otolaryngology care. To create and foster relationships with sister institutions or national societies.

Funding:

Two $4000 scholarships will be available each year to assist the scholar with travel expenses to attend the ASPO meeting and spend time as an observer in pediatric otolaryngology at a tertiary care children’s hospital. The institution will be identified by the ASPO board and relevant committees. Meeting registration will be waived for the awardees. Funds may be used for payment of economy-class airfare, hotel accommodations, and living expenses in the US.

Contributing Organizations:

IAPO: During even-numbered years (i.e. 2022), the award is entitled the “Sylvan Stool Travel Award”, with funds donated by Colleagues, Trainees, and Friends of Sylvan E. Stool M.D., and Supported by contributions from The Inter-American Association of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology (IAPO).

ASPO: During odd-numbered years (i.e. 2021), the award is provided by ASPO, supported by contributions to the Sustaining Our Future Endowment Fund.

2024 ASPO Award Application Process:

This award will not be offered in 2024. Please check back for a 2025 Award.

Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest and Curriculum Vitae (CV) outlining his/her medical training and current position to the ASPO Administrative Offices at [email protected] with a copy to [email protected]. Within the letter, the applicant should discuss how attending the meeting will assist him/her with their future medical practice, and the training of other otolaryngologists. Preference will be given to candidates from countries that do not have training programs or are underserved in pediatric otolaryngology.
